15 Aug Cabo Flats Coming to Delray Marketplace

Now that Delray Marketplace is starting to actually take shape, we’re getting more details as to who’s going into the massive retail-entertainment complex at the corner of West Atlantic Avenue and Lyons Road.

One restaurant that promises to make a splash is the second Cabo Flats, the party-hearty Mexican eatery with better food than you might expect, not to mention a fanciful, L.A. low rider-inspired décor. This sibling to the original Cabo in Palm Beach Gardens is expected to debut in winter of next year. And it will be a big ‘un—7,500 square feet of big-screen TVs, outdoor bar, “fiesta floor” for late-night dancing and, of course, food.

The extensive menu doesn’t try to reinvent the Mexican culinary wheel, so the usual roster of tacos, tostadas, fajitas, burritos will be available, along with entrees like mahi Veracruz, carnitas and chicken molé.

Two dishes that were absolutely irresistible at the PBG Cabo should be on the menu too: tempura-style popcorn shrimp (crispy fried shrimp in a mayo-like orange-habanero sauce) and tuna ceviche tostadas (lightly cured tuna with avocado, tomatoes and cilantro, tossed in sesame oil and a ginger-mango dressing). I’d make the drive out to West Delray for those two dishes alone.

Also look for all kinds of weekly specials, from Thursday ladies night and all-day Wednesday happy hour to kids eat free Mondays and theme parties on the fifth of every month.
